The factors to be considered for purchasing a modem are:

a) Speed: - The speed of modem is counted in Kilo Bytes/Sec i.e. kbps.

b) Support for Indian Telephone Lines: - The modem must support Indian Telephone lines or if it isn't manufactured to support Indian Standards of telephone lines then it will not work properly with telephone lines.

c) Facilities such as headphone and speaker sockets: - These are useful for video conferencing etc
